Notice for Parents and Guardians of Children Receiving Chemotherapy or Radiation Therapy

As required by Texas Health and Safety Code, Section 161.681this notice has been developed and made available for health care facilities to use for the purpose of informing the parents or legal guardians of pediatric cancer patients of the risk of impaired fertility from chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatment. This notice is also available in Spanish.

COVID-19 and Cancer Resources
The Texas Comprehensive Cancer Control Program has compiled a list of resources for increasing cancer screening rates during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hepatitis B and C and Liver Cancer
The Cancer Alliance of Texas (CAT) has developed this hepatitis B and C and liver cancer guide. This guide focuses on preventing liver cancer by preventing and screening for hepatitis B and C.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
The CDC's Division of Cancer Prevention and Control is advancing cancer prevention nationwide for everyone. The Division of Cancer Prevention and Control focuses on innovative communication approaches to promote cancer prevention, screening and early detection, research, and evidence-based programs.

National Cancer Institute (NCI)
The NCI is the federal government's principal agency for cancer research and training. NCI drives the cancer research enterprise by supporting and convening researchers, paying for facilities and systems, coordinating the National Cancer Plan, and more.

American Cancer Society (ACS)
The ACS is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. The ACS offers reliable cancer-related information to health professionals, their staff, and patients.

Livestrong
Livestrong helps cancer survivors, caregivers, and their loved ones through direct services, community programs, and system change. The Livestrong Solution Grants program recognizes and funds organizations who are developing cutting edge, inventive, and sustainable solutions to overlooked cancer problems.

Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT)
The CPRIT is the state agency mandated to create and expedite innovation in cancer research, attract, create, or expand cancer research capabilities in Texas, and develop and implement the Texas Cancer Plan (Plan).

Texas Cancer Registry (TCR)
The TCR is a statewide, population-based registry that serves as the foundation for measuring the cancer burden in Texas. The purpose and ultimate goal of the TCR is to collect, maintain, and disseminate the highest quality cancer data that will contribute towards cancer prevention and control—improving diagnoses, treatment, survival, and quality of life for all cancer patients.

Texas Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS)
The Texas BRFSS is a federally supported landline and cellular telephone survey that collects data about Texas residents regarding their health-related risk behaviors, chronic health conditions, and use of preventive services. 

Texas Cancer Information (TCI)
TCI helps connects patients, caregivers, medical professionals, and the public with reliable, online cancer information. The TCI website offers information on national, state, and community level cancer-related support.

Cancer Alliance of Texas (CAT)
CAT engages organizations, agencies, institutions, and individuals to work collaboratively to reduce the impact of cancer in Texas, and to promote the Plan.

The Guide to Community Preventive Services  (The Community Guide)
The Community Guide is a collection of evidence-based findings of the Community Preventive Services Task Force.

Youth and Young Adult E-Cigarette and Vaping Cessation Resources for Texas Health Care Providers

From Vapes to Victory: Empowering Teens to Overcome Vaping is a free, online training developed by Baylor College of Medicine. This training helps health care providers apply the Ask-Counsel-Treat (ACT) method to address youth e-cigarette and vaping use. Continuing medical education credits are available for physicians and advanced practice providers. Reducing E-Cigarette Use Among Youth and Young Adults Toolkit for Health Care Providers was developed by the Texas Tobacco Prevention and Control Program and TCCCP. It provides current information on youth and young adult e-cigarette and vaping use as well as tobacco cessation resources available to Texas residents. This toolkit promotes the ACT method and complements the From Vapes to Victory training. Both resources are part of the CAT Tobacco Control Priority Area Workgroup’s efforts to reduce e-cigarette use among youth and young adults.

Certified Tobacco Treatment Training Program
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Certified Tobacco Treatment Program is an intensive, four-day course focused on the skills needed to effectively deliver tobacco cessation treatment in both a clinic and community setting. It is intended for health care providers and behavioral health professionals, who counsel patients toward full cessation of tobacco and nicotine products.

Cancer-Related Courses for Community Health Workers (CHWs)
The Center for Community Health Development’s National Community Health Worker Training Center offers free, self-paced continuing education units for CHWs on breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer and more.

Cancer Survivorship E-Learning Series for Primary Care Providers
The Cancer Survivorship E-Learning Series is a free continuing education program that provides a forum to educate primary care providers (e.g., general medicine physicians, geriatricians, gynecologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses) who may have patients who are cancer survivors about how to better understand and care for survivors in the primary care setting.

Provider Education for Mental Health Care of Cancer Survivors
The Provider Education for Mental Health Care of Cancer Survivors training was created to support health care providers, improve knowledge about cancer survivors’ mental health care, and promote recommended distress screening.
