THMP Training

Required Texas HIV Medication Program (THMP) Training for Providers and Internal Staff

CORE TRAINING – These courses are required for the HIV/STD workforce. You must complete core training within the first year of employment.

HIPAA and State Privacy Training (only for DSHS employees, interns, volunteers, and contractors working on-site at DSHS facilities) – You must take this course within six months of employment. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 is a federal law that protects the privacy of a client's individual identifiable health information. DSHS employees, interns, volunteers, and contractors working on site at DSHS facilities must take this course.

HIPAA Privacy Training for Contractors and Volunteers – You must take this course within six months of employment. This is a self-study course required for contractors and volunteers of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission who are not on-site at a DSHS facility. This course will give you basic information about the federal HIPAA rules that protect the privacy of an individual's health information.

New ADAP Enrollment Worker (AEW) Training – This two-day training includes instruction and coaching to provide ADAP enrollment workers with the knowledge and tools needed to link Texans living with HIV to medications paid for by the Texas HIV Medication Program. This training must be completed by new AEWs within three months of employment or at time of first available training. 

Regional Calls – A time for workers in the field to ask questions of THMP staff and for THMP staff to share program updates, provide mini-trainings, and offer specialized technical assistance to the regions. ADAP Eligibility Workers, Case Managers, and others who work with clients to submit THMP applications will receive invitations to attend the regional calls. 

AEW Regional Updates (200 Level Training for Established AEWs) – This 1½-day training includes instruction and coaching to provide ADAP enrollment workers with a deeper understanding of THMP programs (such as SPAP, TIAP, Post-Incarceration, Pharmacy Ordering, Recertification).

Ryan White Eligibility

DSHS Ryan White Part B Eligibility Training and Expectations – This training reviews the required elements for enrolling a client into Ryan White Part B Services. The training also provides an overview of the differences in expectations between Ryan White Part B and the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP).
