Healthcare Providers

The Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 99.1 requires the following persons shall report cases or suspected cases of acute occupational pesticide poisoning to the Texas Department of State Health Services, Environmental Surveillance and Toxicology Branch::

• A physician who diagnoses or treats an individual with the condition.
• A person who oversees a:
  • clinical or hospital laboratory,
  • blood bank or mobile blood unit, or
  • facility in which a laboratory examination reveals evidence of the reportable disease.
• A health professional involved in the process of diagnosing or treating an individual with the condition.

Additionally, the branch collects surveillance data from Texas Poison Center Network, state agencies, and partners in the community.

Acute Occupational Pesticide Poisoning (AOPP) includes exposure to:

• Disinfectants
• Herbicides
• Rodenticides
• Insecticides
• Fumigants
• Repellent

If someone has acute pesticide exposure, collect and report the following information:

• Name
• Date of Exposure
• Treatment
• Address
• Description of Event
• Physician's Name
• Phone Number
• Was this at work?
• Medical Diagnosis
• Date of Birth/Age
• Pesticide Name
• Use of Personal
• Gender
• Symptoms
• Protective Equipment
