November 18 is National Injury Prevention Day
November 18, 2024, is National Injury Prevention Day (NIPD). On this day, we join injury and violence prevention groups across the nation "shining a green light" on safety. The observance "raises awareness about the burden of injury and violence and the need for change." It is an opportunity to educated and equip communities with information and action steps toward injury and violence prevention.
Texas Injuries and Violence by the Numbers
- Unintentional injuries and violence are the leading causes of death and hospitalization for people ages 1 to 44.
- In 2022, more than 22,000 Texans died from injury and violence. That is more than 60 Texans per day!
- There are an additional 600,000+ annual emergency department visits from injury.
- Injuries cost Texas more than $226.18 billion dollars per year.
- Injuries are preventable!
Shine a green light on injury and violence prevention! Green represents life, safety, health, growth, and progress. Together, we can make our communities safer and injury-free – not just on one day but all year!

- Attend the NIPD 2024 kickoff webinar “Unifying Voices" on Tuesday, November 12 at 12 p.m. (CST). Register here.
- Start the conversation virtually by using this NIPD background leading up to and on November 18.
- Learn about organizations and groups in your community doing injury and violence prevention work, share their message, and get involved.
Practice injury prevention in your daily life by following road safety laws, including using proper restraints for both you and your children; removing safety hazards from your home, such as expired prescriptions; using protection, such as helmets, in work and play; talking early and often with youth about key topics, such as drug and alcohol abuse risks; and prioritizing mental wellness.
Texas Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Education Series Open for Registration

The Texas Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Education Series helps equip prehospital providers with the necessary knowledge to provide optimal care for children during emergencies.
This monthly series runs through July 2025. These 1-hour virtual sessions highlight evidence-based or best practice guidelines and resources for adoption in EMS agencies. Topics include pediatric triage tools, multi-system trauma, airway and respiratory management, and non-accidental trauma.
