Safe Riders Child Passenger Safety
Welcome to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Safe Riders Child Passenger Safety Program, in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
Safe Riders is a statewide child passenger safety program. We work to prevent child deaths and reduce child injuries due to motor vehicle crashes.
Who We Serve
DSHS aims to protect children. One way we support this mission is by providing various child safety seat resources to:
- Parents or legal guardians;
- Child Passenger Safety Technicians; and
- Safety advocates.
How We Serve
Our program offers support by providing:
- Child safety seats for families in need;
- Child safety seat inspections/checkups events;
- Child passenger safety presentations and trainings;
- National child passenger safety (CPS) technician certification courses; and
- Educational materials and resources.

Texas Child Passenger Safety Laws
Texas Child Passenger Safety law requires drivers to secure all children younger than age eight (8), unless they are 4’9” (57 inches) tall, in a child safety seat according to manufacturer’s instructions.
Child Safety Seat Inspections Search
Child safety seat checks and inspection stations provide parents and caregivers with the opportunity to have their child's safety seat checked by a nationally certified child passenger safety (CPS) technician.
Safe Riders Program Sites
Safe Riders manages child safety seat distribution and education programs across the state. Partner agencies help provide safe transportation for Texas children. They do this by offering education and car seats to families in need in local Texas communities.
