Texas Statewide Health Coordinating Council

A Healthy Texas is a Productive Texas

The Texas Statewide Health Coordinating Council (SHCC) is a 17-member council. Thirteen members are appointed by the governor, and four are ex-officio members from state agencies. Chapters 104 and 105 of the Health and Safety Code are the enabling statutes of the SHCC.

The broad purpose of the SHCC is to ensure that health care services and facilities are available to all citizens in an orderly and economical manner. The SHCC makes recommendations to the governor and the legislature via the Texas State Health Plan (SHP). The SHP is issued every six years and updated biennially. The SHP and its updates are due by November 1 of each even-numbered year.

The SHCC has statutory oversight of the Health Professions Resource Center and the Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies. It also has one statutorily mandated advisory committee, the Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies Advisory Committee.
